What is the difference between fine lines and wrinkles and can skincare really help?

Fine lines are typically caused by sun damage and smoking, both of which accelerate the degeneration of collagen and elastin fibers. These lines are superficial in nature and extend only to the upper dermis. The little lines around the mouth that cause lipstick to bleed are the best examples of superficial wrinkles.

A deep line is caused by the degradation of the structural components of the skin, including elastin, collagen and fat. Deep wrinkles extend through the upper dermis into the mid and lower dermis. The loss of fat cells beneath the wrinkle coupled with lax connective tissue above it means wrinkling and sagging eventually go hand in hand. A droopy mouth is a perfect example.

Dermatologists and plastic surgeons replace the volume that has been lost with Restylane® , a volumizing filler that is very effective for lessening the “parentheses” formed by deep nasolabial folds.

For a less evasive and less costly alternative, I recommend the ANTI-AGE Regimen and AMP MD Maximum Delivery System to smooth and soften skin, often as early as the first use. Within two months, your skin will appear firmer, lines and wrinkles will be less noticeable (including crow’s feet and nasolabial folds), pores will appear tighter, and your complexion will appear more luminous and refined.

Myth Buster: Lasers are the End All-Be All for Anti-Aging

Lasers can be extremely effective at treating aging skin. However, they are also very expensive and come with lots of uncomfortable side effects.

The good news is that most people do not need to go to these extremes to get real results. Today, you can get incredible results with medicated, over-the-counter regimens to address anti-aging and pigmentation issues.

Look for skincare regimens that are clinically proven to address the concerns you have. If used as directed, you can look great at a fraction of the price and without the downtime that comes with most laser therapy.
